Eating with a fork

More and more, I look at Josie and think how much she is already turning into a little girl. This morning was one of those moments. I made pancakes for breakfast this morning and had cut them up into little bites. I set her fork on the table. (Sometimes she eats more when I feed her, others when she feeds herself. I never know which mood she'll be in)

We've given her a fork and a spoon every now and then to play with and start to get more accustomed to using it. She usually only manages to push the food around on the tray, occasionally hooking it on one of the tines but never managing it into her mouth. Except today! She grabbed the fork off of the table and all of a sudden, she could eat nearly perfectly with her fork. It was just as if she woke up today and could coordinate it. She ate the whole pancake (with the exception of a few bites with her fingers) all by herself using the fork.

Even though I was in such surprise, I was able to take a few pictures so I could blog about it.

Books

Jocelyn loves books. We've come a long way from when she was just barely born and I would read books to her. She would inevitably fuss. I thought I was destine for a child who hated reading. However, I couldn't have been more wrong.

We've got two big baskets full of books. One in the living room next to her pint sized chair and one in the bedroom. She always pulls them all out and wants to read them. Often I feel as though I'm losing brain cells reading the SAME BOOKS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. To date I officially have 28 children's books memorized. Ok, I made that up. But seriously, I think I probably could get close to that.

But then stuff like this happens and I'm so glad that I read to her. I thought that this was one of the cutest things I've ever witnessed in my life.

She climbs up on her chair now and pulls a book from the stack and will "read" it to herself. It usually doesn't last very long. Then she holds the book in her hand and scoots to find me.

Football

I love football.

Long before I went off to OU and started to love Sooner football, I loved

The New York Jets.

Since I started liking the Jets back in the mid-nineties and since I've been watching them, they've only made it to the AFC title game twice.
Once was in the late 90s under the coaching of Bill Parcells.

And once was this season.

The game was today.
The Jets were playing The Colts;
Alex's favorite team.

So, the question is,
WHO DID JOSIE ROOT FOR?

We both tried hard to sway her...

It took her a little bit to decide...

But I think her choice was clear.

Did you hear her say "Go Jets??"

Morning Kisses

This morning, I had jumped back in the bed after getting the baby up and getting her breakfast. Alex was still laying around and we were just talking as Josie was playing in the floor. On Alex's messy bedside table was a silver wrapped Hershey's kiss.

Josie meandered her way over to the bedside table and was picking up (and throwing on the floor) all of the objects as Alex and I were just talking. I noticed her get to the chocolate kiss and inspect it more closely than she had the other objects. How does a 1 year old know a Hershey's kiss from a bit of trash?? But she obviously has an innate ability to detect candy. Over the course of a few minutes she managed to peel the thin foil wrapping off. She would look at me periodically as if she was just waiting for me to say "no" and take it away.

Once she had it unwrapped she looked over to me one last time to see what I was going to do. I just watched. Josie then took a small bite to start with. Then another small bite. Then she turned to me and held it up and said "Mmmm, good" and popped the whole thing in her mouth and then smiled. Sometimes she acts like a real life child instead of a pre-toddler.

I suppose I shouldn't have let her eat chocolate first thing in the morning. I probably should have let her eat chocolate period. But it was so dang cute watching her, I just couldn't stop it.

1 Year Stats and Pictures

Birth:

Jocelyn weighed 6 lbs and 13 oz
She was 19 inches long

**She loves to brush her teeth. Every time we go into the bathroom she points to her tooth brush.
***Sometimes she'll find her sock on the floor and try to put it on her foot. She isn't close at all. She can only hold the sock with two hands and put her foot up in the air. She doesn't yet get the concept that you have to put your foot IN the sock.
***We taught her sign language. She is very talkative with her hands
***She thinks she is such a big girl when mommy brushes her hair or puts runs the make up brush across her cheeks. She smiles so big.
***Josie still hates nap time.
