4 Month Check Up

Besides the shots, which were horrible, everything went great. Josie is in perfect health.

She weighs 12lbs 9.5oz -- 49%
She is 25 1/4 inches -- 90%
Her little head is only 15 3/4 inches -- 30%

She's tall and skinny!

Last night we started rice cereal. About 1 in 10 bites make it to the swallow. All the other 9 come right back out and down the chin. It's adorable.

Jocelyn's First Easter

Dying Eggs w/ Aunt Jessica

Our final product

Josie looking for her hidden Easter basket

She didn't actually get any of that candy. I just really wanted her to have a basket anyway. I'm sure she doesn't mind sharing with me and Daddy.

Perfect Date Night

Tonight was such a perfect Friday evening. When I got home from practice we decided to go to Pei Wei and eat dinner. (We eat out rarely, it's a big treat). As it was Friday night at 7, the line was out the door to the parking lot. We noticed that the take out line was empty and headed that way. We ordered quickly and even got free complimentary drinks while we waited.

It was such a beautiful evening that we passed a park and thought a picnic would be nice. Josie seemed to really love being outside. She's kept looking up through the trees. Then she'd shift her focus to trying to grab her feet. She was really into that tonight and she's almost coordinated enough to get them.

After dinner we took turns sliding down the slide with the baby. It was darling to watch. Then we tried the swing. She LOVED it. I was holding her on my lap and as we would swing towards Alex he would tickle and kiss her. She laughed so much. It is the sweetest little baby giggle you've ever heard.

Sadly, it was such an impromptu outing that I didn't have a camera; I have no pictures to post. It was such a great time at the park, perfect weather. Josie was so happy, smiling and laughing.

We finished the evening with Blue Bell ice-cream and America's Funniest Home Videos (Well, Al and I did. Josie went to sleep soon after we got home). It was a perfect Friday night.

Summer-Here we come!

Little Jocelyn is ready for summer! I have been looking forward to this summer for many months before I was even pregnant. I can't wait to hang out by the pool and goof around this summer. She's been splashing in the bath a lot lately and I know she'll just adore the pool.

First, we have a little summer hat to keep the sun out of Josie's eyes. We wear it out to get the mail on sunny days and it will come in handy by the pool.

Then, we have a little baby bathing suit! And I thought little baby dresses were cute! Check this tiny thing out, it is only as big as my hand!

Can't you tell how excited she is for summer!?!

Jocelyn has loved music, since the very beginning. Some of you may remember my post about going to the Gymnastics World Tour or the video of her dancing at one month. She also really likes you to sing to her. She really likes the "ABCs", "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and her newest "Here comes Peter Cotton Tail".

Her VERY favorite that will calm her even during the worst cry fest is "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider".

We sing and have music on a lot in the house. Josie is learning that she can make sounds too. Every day it's a new sound or gurgle. She spends most mornings "singing" to herself.

Easter pics to come soon!

Sears Portraits

Perhaps taking an infant for pictures ALONE was a bad idea. I was very overwhelmed. It was our first trip to the mall. We arrived at the studio a little early and had the first appointment. They were ready for us, or so they thought. The studio was at least 95 degrees. Maybe in case we decided to do a diaper only shot? I was profusely sweating.

The first few shots were great. Fantastic. Josie smiled sweetly. Then the bright flashes, hot studio and strange lady got to her. On pose 3, the screaming began. So disappointed too, it was going to be a cute shot with flowers and Easter eggs

I say to the photographer. "Oh well, at least we got a couple of good ones"

She responds "Yes, but we can't send them off unless we get 9 poses"

"What? Why?"

"It's a rule"

"Well, how many poses do we have already"

"So your telling me, I can't just choose from the ones you already did? I have to make my screaming baby sit through 7 more"

I kind of stared at her in amazement thinking how ridiculous it was. Then she proceeded to tell me that my baby was hungry even though she ate right before we left. (Why does everyone insist she is always hungry!). I decided to go ahead and feed her at least to calm her down so she's stop screaming in the studio.

At that point I realized that I had unpacked my feeding shield and forgotten to repack it in the diaper bag. So, sitting in the waiting room I had few options. Oh well, I swallowed my pride and whipped it out right there. What else was I going to do? Most people looked away when they noticed what I was doing.

My original photographer had her next appointment show up and started on them. A second lady came over to get me just as Josie began to drift off to sleep. We finished the photo session in between screams (because of course she wasn't happy to have been awakened from her nap). This lady had a talent though, she could grab Josie's attention long enough for a quick smile in between cries. We got the 7 other poses finished quickly.

I was disappointed that they only let me see 12 of the bijillion pictures they took. I went in there because I had a coupon for a free photo session and a package for $4.99. They tried to sell me a $300 package, after making me wait 30 minutes with a restless 3 month old for the sales lady to come over. I resisted spending extra money, frugal fans can be proud! Here are the pictures that I ended up with:

After I saw the pictures, it was all worth it. Though next time, I'm bringing someone to help me.

My TV Diva

I've read all over that the American Academy of Pediatricians recommend that no children under the age of 2 watch TV. I also read recently a study about background TV being harmful also. I make a concerted effort to keep the TV off as much as possible during the day.

However, this evening I was home alone with the baby. I set her down in her jungle gym while I ate dinner and watched my DVRed "Dancing with the Stars" (Go Shawn Johnson!). When I put her down to play, she was facing away from the TV like this:

As I finished up my delicious turkey sausage and rice, I looked down and noticed she had squirmed herself around and was now positioned so she could perfectly watch Shawn, Laurence Taylor and Steve-O preform their fantastic dances.

She rolled over for the first time this weekend from her belly to her back. I didn't realize however, that she was mobile enough (or smart enough) to twist and turn herself around in a circle. Every day she impresses me with something new.

Josie's Friend

My very good friend found out she was pregnant about 3 months after I did. Naturally, it was very exciting that we were both pregnant together. She had a little boy on March 21st and Josie and I went to visit.

Here is little Cade:

We tried to get a couple of pictures of them together. Unfortunately, infants aren't always very cooperative. These were the best we could do.

I missed it. Her first laugh. She did it for Daddy. I can't wait to see it for myself.
